A Few Words

About Us

History

The Light of Dawn is a dedicated social service group founded in 2013 to honor the memory of Dawn Angelopoulos.

In 2012, we lost Dawn following a difficult battle with breast cancer. Dawn’s memory lives on within her family and friends. To honor Dawn, preserve her memory and allow her to continue to help others, The Light of Dawn and The Dawn Angelopoulos Memorial Scholarship were created in 2013.

Awards and Scholarship

The Light of Dawn Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating Lynn English High School senior who is accepted for enrollment at Salem State University. The successful candidate is someone who, like Dawn, worked hard at Lynn English and chose Salem State as a means of expanding horizons and helping the community.

The scholarship is a $2,000 non-renewable award presented by the Dawn Angelopoulos Memorial Scholarship Committee after review of completed applications submitted by interested students.

Through 2021, we have awarded eight scholarships to deserving students and look forward to continuing to support Lynn English graduates.

Community Service Award

Each year, we award three Community Service Awards to deserving organizations which support the community Dawn loved so much.

The awards consist of two $2,500 awards, one each presented in August and December, as well as one $5,000 award presented during our Annual Fundraising Event in June. During the pandemic, we provided additional grants to local food pantries and support organizations to help those most immediately impacted.

We are proud to have made over $80,000 in awards to groups including:

And several others. We encourage you to learn more about our Community Service Award Winners and continue our support!
